El Marques Palace
|
312 El
Marques Palace is a prestigious, very spacious and sunny
two bedroom apartment, (which can sleep up to 6
people). It is wonderfully positioned with glorious
views over the sea and cliffs, where the quaint village
of Los Gigantes meets Puerto Santiago on the
sun-drenched South Western coast of Tenerife. This is a
much quieter place than noisy Las Americas and Los
Christianos, but a whole host of restaurants and
entertainment are within a very short walk of our
apartment.
The
village is 35 kms from the international airport, Reina
Sofia - approximately 45 minutes by car. The
beautifully maintained, gated El Marques complex is set
in pretty gardens, has a fully staffed reception who
speak very good English and are on hand and happy to
help you to get to know the area and really enjoy your
holiday.

The
apartment is privately owned by us, Fliss and Terry. We
first visited Los Gigantes in February 2002 and simply
fell in love with the place. We viewed other apartments
in the area but some were quite dark. However, we were
instantly bowled over by the bright and airy feel of
this apartment and that feeling hasn't left us, we still
feel a thrill when we open the front door. The sunny
climate (fantastic for helping asthma and arthritis),
relaxed life-style and friendliness of the people in the
village simply drew us in.
This is a totally different atmosphere to ultra-busy Las
Americas with none of the brash hustle and bustle. There
isn't even a through road as the only road into the
village leads only to the harbour. |

There are only 64 apartments in total in the two
small blocks which form El Marques Palace so there
is always masses of space around the pools and there
are no problems securing a sunlounger!
We’d like to spend as much time out there as
commitments will allow but will rent out the
apartment so that others may share our beautiful
apartment and enjoy the glorious weather plus all
the facilities that El Marques Palace and the area
have to offer.
We look forward to hearing from you as to how we can
help plan your holiday.

About the apartment
The
apartment catches the sun from early in the morning
until it sets flamboyantly over the sea in the
evening – the balcony is a fabulous place to be at
this time of day - raising a glass of local wine in
the glorious golden light!!!
The apartment has two bedrooms, one with a king size
bed and glass door to the balcony, the other with
two single beds. Both have plenty of wardrobe and
storage space. There is a double sofa bed in the
lounge bringing maximum capacity to six if you so
want. Cot and high chair are available for our
smaller guests!
Towels are provided and you’ll find the cosy beds
made up on arrival with a mid-week clean by the
friendly maids, including a change of bed linen and
towels. The kitchen bin is emptied daily by the
maids who greet you with a cheery ‘hola’ as they go
about their work keeping the whole complex spotless.
There are two pretty bathrooms - both with bath and
shower.
The
kitchen is fully fitted (fridge/freezer, kettle,
toaster, hob, large oven and grill plus washing
machine and microwave, liquidiser - even a fruit
juicer!). Eating in, if you so desire, is a very
easy option, especially as the supermarket will
deliver your shopping! A welcome pack of tea,
coffee, milk, water and wine await your arrival.
Friendly maids empty the bins daily.
The apartment has an iron
and board and a hairdryer so no need to pack these.
312
does have air conditioning but, as patio doors fill
one wall of the open plan lounge flooding the room
with light and air, the owners haven't had much
cause to use it.

Satellite TV, DVD and a CD player are available for
your enjoyment. 312 El Marques Palace has also
subscribed to membership of the local DVD hire shop
for you. This means that for a tiny fee of 1 Euro
per night you can hire films to enjoy in the comfort
of your own apartment. The elegant beech wood
dining table and chairs make for sophisticated
dining inside or there are sun-beds, chairs and a
table on the large balcony for more al fresco
meals.
The
wide verandah, with sun loungers, extends the living
space of this already spacious apartment.

Although located on the third floor this apartment
is very easily accessed by the lift or stairs.
We
do also have connections with other owners in El
Marques Palace if you wanted to bring a larger party
of friends or family and needed extra apartments.
A
welcome pack of wine, water, tea/coffee/milk and
sugar await your arrival. Comfortable furniture,
friendly, helpful owners and staff on site, English
pillows on the beds, plus a large selection of books
and CDs to borrow, make this a cosy home from home
and many of our guests return time after time, after
time!!

Activities
The
complex has two HEATED swimming pools - not many in
the area are heated but this large pool is gorgeous,
plus another one for the children, and a poolside
snack bar. The sun hits the pool early in the
morning and stays until early evening. El Marques
Palace also has two tennis courts and bowling
greens, great fun!
|
In the evenings if worn out by all this action, you
can sit back and relax in the comfort of the
squishy, royal blue sofa and catch up on Sky news or
one of the other channels available (the owners
daughter discovered a channel showing slushy films
and was hooked!) or a DVD - that's if you can drag
yourself away from the from the good food and live
entertainment in one of the restaurants or bars in
the village

Eating out (or in)
We’ve enjoyed simple picnic lunches of local cheese
and huge locally grown tomatoes drizzled with olive
oil and crispy 'panos' most days then worked up an
appetite for a delicious meal in one of the
restaurants in the evening.
There are a host of restaurants in the local area
from traditional Spanish fare at El Meson (dine with
romantic views of the sun setting over the sea or
the island of La Gomera – just watch you don't stick
your fork in your ear), through to more
sophisticated 'Miranda's' in the village. Have a
look at our list of recommended eateries – there’s
so much choice, from freshly landed fish to
traditional roast dinner or an Indian meal (they
also deliver). You could honestly eat out every
night and not visit the same restaurant twice and
all within a reasonable walking distance.
|
Life is simple at 312. The kitchen is very easy to
use, so we alternate eating out with just curling up
with supper at home (I love lying on the balcony
with the scent of roast chicken, and the promise of
a delicious dinner, wafting on the air).
There is a spotlessly clean supermarket just over
the road which sells local delicacies whilst at the
same time catering for the more English tastes - and
they deliver!!!! They and the little bakery in
Puerto Santiago (just across the road in the other
direction) both sell hot bread from early in the
morning so you can have fresh, fragrant crusty panos
(rolls) and croissant with your breakfast – yummy!!

Other things to do
There's something for everyone during the day.
You can enjoy all of the above within El Marques
Palace itself but slightly further afield:
There’s Golf on glorious courses.
You can relax on one of the beaches or visit El
Aguillo – wonderful sea water pool and lagoon near
the harbour. Your children would love The Oasis,
where they have slides into the swimming pool and
trampolines. The snack bar there sits on the cliff
and has stunning views across the ever changing bay
to La Gomera. I’ve whiled away many an afternoon
enjoying a ‘toasty’ and Fanta Limon reading my book
and drinking in the buena vista.
How about hiking in the hills or down the twisting
cliff path to Masca Bay (guided walks with “Hans
Wander Club” – we have details or you can pick up
leaflets in reception).
Boat trips from little Los Gigantes harbour to visit
the whales and dolphins which are to be found
playing a little further out to sea – magical!!
For the adventurous you can also arrange scuba
diving and fishing trips from the harbour. There
are excursions to majestic Mount Teide in the centre
of the island or trips to the mysterious island of
La Gomera (listen out for the famous whistling
language!)

Information

El Marques is set in an elevated position with a
walk down the sweeping hill into the village of Los
Gigantes (for those less able on their pins it costs
approximately two Euros each way by one of the
excellent local taxis). Alternately, there is a
dramatic walk along the rugged coast which takes you
into the heart of the village. The village of
Los Gigantes boasts a traditional style plaza
with a church. The church holds both Catholic and
Anglican church services. The people are very
friendly and welcome visitors (see the notice board
for details) and the church is worth a visit if only
to admire the paintings and sculpture.
Our sport obsessed son found Highland Paddy's Bar
where live English soccer games are shown plus other
notable sporting events. They also have fun
entertainment (most are suitable for older children)
every evening which you can enjoy for the price of a
drink (Agua con gas in my case). So you can live
it up or just chill out. Considering the tiny size
of the village there really is something for
everyone.
We have rented other apartments in the area and
consider El Marques Palace knocks most of them into
a cocked hat.
There isn't unlimited availability
so email or phone us today to book your holiday in
the sun.
----------------------------------------------------------------
For the benefit of all our guests we politely request
no smoking inside the apartment.
